Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified EOD Specialist for our operations in Shire, Ethiopia.
Overall purpose of the role
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental, non-profit organization founded in 1956 that works in more than 30 countries throughout the world, including Ethiopia. DRC fulfils its mandate by providing direct assistance to conflict-affected populations, including refugees, internally displaced people and host communities. Under its mandate, the organization focuses on emergency humanitarian response, rehabilitation, post-conflict recovery and humanitarian mine-action.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
To achieve the position’s objectives, the Employee will perform the following tasks and undertake the following responsibilities, under the direction of the supervisor:
- Undertake demining, EOD, BAC, and Survey tasks in accordance with DRC SOPs as directed by the Technical Field Manager
- Assist in the planning of tasks as required by the TFM.
- Conduct independent tasks as directed by the TFM.
- Carry out maintenance of team equipment.
- Interpreting as required by Technical Field Managers.
- Carrying out any other tasks as directed by the TFM
Experience and technical competencies:
- At least 3 years experience in deminer required with previous NGO experience
- Must be willing and immediately available to attend the IMAS EOD Level 1 & 2 course upon employment
- Working experience in Tigray is highly desirable
- Basic first aid (Desirable)
- Basic radio communication skills (Desirable)
- Ability and flexibility to understand the cultural and political environment and to work well with the local authorities
- Willingness to live and work in remote and isolated areas under basic conditions is a must
- Hold valid Passport by employment date (essential)
- No criminal record (essential).
EDUCATION: (include certificates, licenses, etc.)
- Must be willing and immediately available to attend the IMAS EOD Level 1 & 2 course upon employment
- Secondary School certificate or Equivalent.
LANGUAGE: (indicate Fluency level)
- Fluent in English.
