Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.
DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and implements emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.
DRC is currently looking for a Deminer in Chernihiv.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete mandatory training as part of the recruitment process. Job offers will be extended to successful candidates upon completion of the training.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
Considering the specifics of work in the field of humanitarian demining, the general rules, methods and technologies by which humanitarian demining is carried out are described in detail in the SOP, according to which the deminer must:
- Complete all mandatory training as determined by the Mine Action Program Coordinator.
- Conduct safe demining procedures strictly in accordance with the instructions of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); adhere to the SOPs established for the demining procedure; apply the proper marking system as specified in the SOPs.
- Maintain personal protective equipment in good condition, clean it regularly and check for any damage.
- Maintain equipment and tools in proper cleanliness, working condition and in a complete set, including the detector and demining tools.
- Be responsible for own safety and maintain discipline at all times while on the work site; be responsible for the safety of others working around.
- Assist with non-technical and technical surveys of areas; work hard to ensure the effectiveness of the entire team.
- Follow the instructions of the Team Leader; immediately report any threats to the safety of the team and/or others to the Team Leader.
About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to have at least Secondary Education and Vocational Education or Secondary Education and Professional training in a relevant organization, without work experience. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required
- Certificates of DRC and others NGOs in Manual Demining in Mine Action (MMC).
- Certificates of DRC and others NGOs in Battle Area Clearance in Mine Action (BAC).
- Completion of relevant demining and security training.
- First aid skills.
- Ability to follow instructions clearly.
Personal qualities:
- Physical and psychological endurance with a desire to engage in physically demanding manual labor.
- Willingness to work away from home for a long period of time.
